ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Great participation in the inauguration today of the 56th academic year of the Pontifical Faculty of Education “Auxilium”, which welcomes students, religious and laity in Rome, of 67 countries of the world. To open the works, hosted at the Magna John Paul II Hall, the Eucharistic celebration presided by Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
Great interest in the prolusion held by Elena Beccalli, Rector of the Catholic University of Milan, entitled: “Educating with intelligence (artificial). Among ambivalence and responsibility”. A topic of great relevance that Professor Beccalli recommended to address with “an approach that links technology within a relational intelligence horizon. An intelligence that interweaves links; that enhances interconnection between individuals and communities and that makes shared responsibility (for the integral well-being of the other) its highest ambition.”.
Reflecting on the relationship between person, artificial intelligence and responsibility, Professor Beccalli recalled how education represents an instrument of orientation in an unprecedented context of rapid and radical transformation. “All this led me to propose an educational pact for new technologies and artificial intelligence that can be understood as an additional pillar of the Global Compact on Education, in the perspective of a digital education that meets one of the three new educational challenges outlined by Pope Leo XIV. The network of Catholic institutions can promote the Covenant. In particular, Catholic and Pontifical Universities can operate as laboratories to cultivate emotional, spiritual, relational and social intelligence; exercising with wisdom and creativity an accurate research on the complex relationship between artificial and human intelligence; contributing to bring out the potential that can arise for the different areas of science and reality; guiding them always towards ethically qualified applications and to the service of social cohesion and the common good”.
To do the honors home, the Dean of the Auxilium Faculty, Professor Piera Ruffinatto with a reflection on the task of “educating for peace: knowledge as a cure”. In an age marked by conflicts, inequalities and social fragmentation “the knowledge that cures – says Professor Ruffinatto – is what is not limited to accumulating notions, but that knows how to question, listen, generate dialogue and open horizons of hope”. This “encloses a dual awareness: that of the responsibility that challenges us as an educational community and that of the transformative fruitfulness that knowledge can have when serving the person and the common good. Education in peace means recognizing that every formative act is also an act of care.”.
There is then need – the principal still hopes – “of educational institutions that are workshops of peace, where one experiences concretely that another way of being together is possible; of teachers, students and researchers who do not want to get their hands dirty with the wounds of the present, but who at the same time know how to look beyond, imagining and building more just and fraternal futures.”.
In closing, the proclamation to professor emeritus of Pastoral Theology of Professor Rosangela Siboldi, then the greeting of Mother Chiara Cazzuola, Grand Chancellor of the Faculty and Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Helper, who declares open the academic year 2025-2026.
