Industry, for 2 out of 3 Italians, crisis now structural

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Based on data from the latest ISTAT report, Italian industry in December 2024 contracted 7.1 percent year-on-year, down 3.1 percent from November. A crisis affecting several sectors, with the exception of the energy sector, which grew by 5.5 percent. On the production side, there are also contractions in almost all sectors, and industries are experiencing severe difficulties. A situation that, according to nearly 2 out of 3 Italians, is now structural, with a country in decline and not keeping up with other world powers. This is what emerges from a survey by Euromedia Research.A perception that uniformly and across the board involves citizens from the north to the south of the country. On the other hand, just over 1 in 5 Italians are those who experience this crisis as a temporary and transient situation determined by contingent factors. In general, therefore, in such a scenario, today half of Italians in the future view their economic situation with pessimism. A trend that, between ups and downs, has remained constant for several years. In fact, while registering a decrease compared to, for example, the year of the pandemic (where the annual average of “pessimists touched 63.7 percent) the share of those who look at the future with negativity remains a majority in our country.Euromedia Research’s survey was conducted on February 17, 2025 using CATI/CAWI methodology on a sample of 1,000 cases representative of the Italian population of age 18 and over.
