Industry turnover grows in January 2025, Istat data shows

ROME (ITALPRESS) – In January 2025, industry turnover, net of seasonal factors, is estimated to increase cyclically by 3.8 percent in value and 4.0 percent in volume.

There are increases in both the domestic (+3.9% in value and volume) and foreign markets (+3.6% in value and +4.4% in volume). For the services sector, an increase in both value (+1.2 percent) and volume (+0.9 percent) is estimated, with positive dynamics in both wholesale trade (+0.9 percent in value and +0.3 percent in volume) and other services (+1.6 percent in value and +1.3 percent in volume). This is noted by Istat.

Seasonally adjusted indexes of turnover in value referring to the main industry groupings show a marked cyclical increase in January for intermediate goods (+4.2 percent), capital goods (+4.0 percent) and consumer goods (+3.8 percent), and a smaller growth for energy (+0.3 percent).

In the November 2024-January 2025 quarter, in cyclical terms, industry turnover, net of seasonal factors, increased both in value (+1.2%) and volume (+1.1%). The performance of services over the same time frame was positive, with increases of 0.8 percent in value and 0.7 percent in volume.

On a trend basis, in January 2025, industry sales, adjusted for calendar effects, increased by 1.7 percent in value (+1.3 percent in the domestic market and +2.5 percent in the foreign market) and 0.9 percent in volume (with a zero change in the domestic market and a 2.9 percent increase in the foreign market). There were 21 calendar working days compared to 22 in January 2024.

The calendar-adjusted indexes of turnover in value referring to the main industry groupings show, on an annual basis, a marked increase for consumer goods (+5.6 percent) and intermediate goods (+2.0) while moderate declines are observed for capital goods (-2.0 percent) and energy (-2.9 percent).

In services, trend increases of 3.0 percent in value and 0.7 percent in volume are observed. In wholesale trade, turnover increases in value (+1.1%) and there is a zero change in volume. Trend increases are observed for other services (+5.1% in value and +0.9% in volume). Data on the annual revision of the raw index time series for the year 2024 is released with this release.
