MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Inzaghi’s Inter Milan repeated their first-leg success at De Kuip, beating Feyenoord 2-1 also at home and inscribing their name among Europe’s top 8. No surprises at the San Siro, where goals by Thuram and Calhanoglu (on a penalty kick) gave the Nerazzurri the victory: Moder’s penalty had been worth the momentary equalizer for the Dutch. In the Champions League quarterfinals, Inter will take on Bayern Munich.
THE EVENING’S OTHER RESULTS
The only negative note of the evening was De Vrij’s forfeit at the end of the warm-up: the Dutchman, in fact, initially in the starting eleven, suffered a muscle problem and did not even sit on the bench. In his place in the center of the defense played Acerbi: space from the first minute also for Carlos Augusto, Frattesi and Taremi. Inter got off to a strong start immediately with the will to secure the qualification. Barely eight minutes passed and Thuram scored the 1-0 goal, taking advantage of a too soft attitude of the Dutch defenders: the Frenchman received on the left, skipped past two opponents and then finished with a right-footed shot under the crossbar. Nerazzurri close to doubling the score a few minutes later, but Taremi from the edge kicks hard, but centrally.
The match seemed to be in total control, but Inzaghi’s boys were punished at the first blunder. After Var review, in fact, at 40′, referee Kruzliak whistles a penalty for Feyenoord, following Calhanoglu’s impudent entry on Moder: from the eleven meters goes precisely the Polish midfielder who precisely scores the 1-1. The unfavorable episode does not faze Inter, which re-enters the field for the second half with the nastiness typical of great teams. After five minutes, the Slovak whistle concedes another penalty, this time for the home side: clumsily Beelen stretches the ball into the box and then sinks the tackle on Taremi who had taken his time. Scoring from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 was Calhanoglu, who quickly made up for his earlier mistake. The Nerazzurri came close to scoring the third first with Mkhitaryan who kicked high, then with the crossbar hit by Thuram at the end of a personal action. Zero risks in the final for the Nerazzurri, who also had the luxury of making their debut with two spring players, Cocchi and Berenbruch. Waiting for the big challenge against Bayern now Inter will refocus on the championship: on Sunday at 9 p.m. the big match against Atalanta is scheduled.
