Inter beats Fiorentina 2-1, now -1 from Napoli

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Fiorentina dominant at the Franchi, Inter dominant at the San Siro: the Nerazzurri redeemed Thursday’s 3-0 loss and beat the Viola 2-1. A golden victory, worth the rapprochement with Napoli: only one point ahead of Conte, stopped yesterday by Udinese. In the first ten minutes, Inzaghi’s team nearly had 90 percent ball possession and crushed Fiorentina in their own half in a one-sided start. Lautaro comes close to scoring after fifty seconds and Fiorentina is unable to get out, with a series of interist actions. The best one is for Barella, with a beautiful bicycle kick that ends out just wide. After a quarter of an hour Fiorentina comes out of its shell, but Inter still dominates: a near post by Carlos Augusto and a cross by Lautaro from a corner. It was from a corner kick, just after Thuram’s exit due to injury, that the goal of the lead was born.
A scrum generated Lautaro’s touch, but there was a deflection by Pongracic that displaced de Gea: own goal and 1-0 at 28′. Strong purple protests, with good reason: the ball had gone out on Bastoni’s recovery, which generated the corner. La Penna did not revise his decision and Inter, always dominant, came close to doubling the score with the newly-entered Arnautovic: excellent clearance by de Gea. In the final minutes, however, another disputed decision delivers the equalizer to Fiorentina: dubious penalty and 1-1 by Mandragora (44′). Tensions rose with a mini-riot between Parisi and Calhanoglu (cautioned) and, in the resumption, the Turk did not return to the pitch: there was Zielinski in the box.
Inter got back in charge of operations and, at 52′, went through: right cross by Carlos Augusto, Arnautovic burned Ranieri and bagged a header to make it 2-1. Palladino deploys all his cards from the bench, from Zaniolo to Gudmundsson, but the best chances are still Nerazzurri. Lautaro and Zalewski go very close to the trio, weak shots from Gosens and Zaniolo. The four minutes of stoppage time served only for Inter, who administered and kept their rivals at bay.
A very heavy victory for Inzaghi, who moves to -1 from leading Napoli (55): 54 points for the Nerazzurri after 24 matches. On the other hand, Fiorentina stops at 42, bypassed by Lazio (45) and Juventus (43): now the violets are sixth.
