TEHERAN (IRAN) (ITALPRESS) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with the US CNN network that he lost confidence in the United States as a partner for negotiations. “Unfortunately, we have lost confidence in the United States as a partner for negotiations,” said Araghchi, stressing that to start a meaningful dialogue process, it is necessary to overcome this profound lack of trust. The head of Iranian diplomacy explained that some countries friends in the region are currently acting as intermediaries to build confidence and prepare the ground for concrete talks, defining these exchanges of fruitful messages.
Araghchi expressed confidence in the possibility of reaching a fair and just agreement with Washington on the Iranian nuclear program, while recognizing the difficulties caused by the unilateral withdrawal of the US from the JCPOA agreement of 2015 and recent tensions. Referring to the statements of American President Donald Trump, who said on the weekend that “Iran is talking to us, seriously”, Araghchi confirmed the existence of indirect channels of communication. The minister also warned that a war would be a catastrophe for all, specifying that Iran learned lessons from past experiences and is now well prepared, but does not want the conflict.
Araghchi finally assured that the rights of persons arrested during the recent January protests will be respected and that no execution is planned for hanging, in response to Trump’s threats against the Iranian authorities for the repression of demonstrations.
