TEHERAN (IRAN) (ITALPRESS) – White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi should meet Friday in Istanbul to discuss a possible nuclear deal. The head of Axios is citing two confidential sources. A third source of knowledge of the preparations stated that a Friday meeting would be “the best scenario”, but warned that nothing is definitive until it is realized.
If that happens, it will be the first meeting between U.S. and Iranian officials after the failure of the negotiations held in April 2025 and the 12-day war last June. The possible meeting would take place in conjunction with a massive deployment of US military means in the Gulf, and with President Donald Trump insisting that the only way to avoid a military conflict is a rapid agreement.
At the possible meeting came after the diplomatic efforts of the last days of Turkey, Egypt and Qatar.
Today the Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Egypt, Hakan Fidan and Badr Abdelatty, spoke again with Araghchi to discuss the possible meeting. The Iranian state media also reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian ordered the resumption of negotiations with the Trump administration. A
raghchi said that Iran is ready for diplomacy. “But diplomacy is incompatible with pressure, intimidation and force. We hope that its results will soon become apparent,” he said. The potential encounter would happen after that between Witkoff and Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu, scheduled tomorrow in Jerusalem.
