ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, participated in a video conference of the leaders of the G7 dedicated to the developments of the crisis in the Gulf and its economic and energy implications. In this context, the Heads of State and Government of the G7 reaffirmed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation. The prime minister also reaffirmed his commitment to foster a return to diplomacy that leads to solutions for the stability of the region and the importance of G7 solidarity towards the Gulf Nations affected by Iranian attacks. In the latter regard, Meloni proposed that a comparison be organised between the G7 and the Gulf Cooperation Council. During the meeting, Meloni stressed the importance that current volatility does not translate structurally into economic growth.
In this regard, the President of the Council, like the other G7 leaders, recalled the important decision taken within the International Energy Agency to release up to 400 million crude barrels to stabilize markets. The G7 leaders agreed to maintain close coordination in the coming weeks to contribute to the solution of the crisis, to the stability of markets and to ensure the security of energy supplies.
