TEHERAN (IRAN) (ITALPRESS) – At least 51 protesters, including nine people under the age of 18, were killed and hundreds wounded in the first thirteen days of the new cycle of national protests against the regime and the carovita in Iran. The non-governmental organization based in Norway IHRNGO, which also received reports of dozens of other protesters killed in Tehran, Mashhad, Karaj (Fardis) and Hamedan. This news is currently under review and the data is not included in the report. On January 8, protests and strikes were more widespread than previous days and at 22:00 (local time), there was an Internet blackout throughout the country. IHRNGO warns of the possibility of intense repression and an increase in the budget of the victims following the closure of the Internet.
Director of IHRNGO, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said: “The closure of the Internet at national level recalls the bloody repression of the protests of November 2019 when several hundred protesters were killed. In the last 13 days, the government’s use of force against protesters has increased and the risk of intensified violence and the widespread killing of protesters after the closure of the Internet is very serious. The international community must act immediately to ensure that people in Iran have free internet access and countries with diplomatic relations with Iran must, in a clear and decisive message, tell the Islamic Republic that the world will not tolerate the killing of protesters.”.
The new cycle of protests, which began on 28 December 2025 in Tehran’s bazaar for poor economic conditions, quickly spread to other parts of Iran, accompanied by anti-government slogans. In the first thirteen days, before the Internet closes, protests continued in all provinces and about 120 cities.
