Israeli govt approves Gaza deal, 737 detained in exchange for hostages

ROME (ITALPRESS) – In a packed meeting overnight, the Israeli government approved the Gaza cease-fire and hostage release agreement, signed last night in Doha. The agreement will go into effect tomorrow. This was announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office. The Israeli government’s green light comes after the security cabinet had already given its okay to the truce agreement. According to Israeli media, 24 ministers reportedly voted in favor and eight against the agreement, which is expected to go into effect tomorrow. Now that the government has approved the agreement, opponents can appeal to the High Court of Justice, although the court is unlikely to intervene in a timely manner.Meanwhile, today Hamas will release the names of the first three hostages to return home. But “if negotiations on Phase 2 of the agreement fail and Hamas does not accept the security demands, the IDF will return to intensive fighting in Gaza with U.S. support,” is Netanyahu’s warning. Under the agreement, Israel will release 737 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the first Israeli hostages in the hands of Hamas in the first phase of the truce agreement in the Gaza Strip. This was announced by the Israeli Justice Ministry. Among the prisoners to be released is Zakaria Zubeidi, responsible for several attacks against Israeli civilians and former leader of the AlAqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the Fatah party.- photo Ipa agency -(ITALPRESS).
