Italian football in mourning, died at 79 years Beppe Savoldi

BERGAMO (ITALPRESS) – The football cries Beppe Savoldi: the former Atalanta, Bologna and Naples attacker turned off at 79. On his Facebook page, the son Gianluca: “Our great Beppe left in another dimension. His places, his home and his affections accompanied him until the last moment, leaving us guardians of the values and love that have always constituted the figure of his earthly path. We are very proud of all this, even though it is overwhelmed by pain. We warmly thank the doctors and nurses of Pope John XXIII and the Blessed Palace Institute of Bergamo who have taken care of him even among his beloved home walls.”.

Originary of Gorlago, in Bergamo, class 1947, Savoldi was one of the keynote symbol of his era. Grown up at the Atalanta, where he debuted in Serie A just eighteen years ago, in 1968 he moved to Bologna where he stayed for 7 seasons, winning two Italian Cups and the title of the Serie A 1972-73. In the summer of 1975 the passage to Naples for a billion and 400 million lire plus the Clerici cartel and half of Rampanti, valued another 600 million: from there the nickname “Mister Due Miliardi”, for what at the time was the most expensive operation ever of Italian football. Savoldi won another Italian Cup there, and then returned to Bologna in 1979 to be a captain, except then being involved in the Totonero scandal. Reduced the disqualification of two years, closed to the Atalanta, in B, in the 1982-83 season. He put his shoes on the nail (168 nets in 405 Serie A appearances on his overall boot), he devoted himself for a few years to the career of coach between C1 and C2. Difficult the relationship with the National, where he collected just 4 appearances (and a penalty goal in the friendly against Greece), all in 1975.
