Italian Tennis Thrives at US Open with Seven Players in ATP Top 48

Italy’s tennis scene is making waves at the US Open, with seven Italian players currently ranked in the ATP Top 48, the highest number for any nation. Lorenzo Sonego’s recent title win at Winston-Salem has propelled him to 48th place, marking a significant rise. Jannik Sinner continues to lead the ATP rankings, maintaining his position at world number one ahead of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, with no changes in the top ten. The rest of the top ten includes Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz, Casper Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov, and Alex De Minaur.

Among the other Italian players, Lorenzo Musetti holds steady at 18th, Matteo Arnaldi is at 30th, and Flavio Cobolli is 31st. Luciano Darderi has moved up to 37th, while Matteo Berrettini remains at 44th. Sonego’s impressive climb of ten spots is the most notable advancement among the current Top 50 players. Additionally, Fabio Fognini is ranked 71st, and Luca Nardi has risen to 90th. Mattia Bellucci has also made progress, now standing just outside the top 100 at 101st.
