Italy-Bulgaria, Ambassador Zarra meets with Economy Minister Dilov

SOFIA (BULGARIA) (ITALPRESS) – The Ambassador of Italy in Sofia, Giuseppina Zarra, met with the Minister of Economy and Industry, Petar Dilov. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Nevena Lazarova, Head of the Minister’s Cabinet, Tanya Atanasova, Director of the Directorate “Foreign Economic Policy and International Cooperation,” Ivo Marinov, Director of the “Europe” Department, Vesela Bayraktarova, and President of Confindustria, Roberto Santorelli.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Zarra and Minister Dilov agreed on key priorities that would facilitate the inflow of Italian investment into the country, including Bulgaria’s progress on the path to OECD membership, the importance of completing the Eurozone accession process, and measures being studied by the new government to improve the business climate.
In addition, there was an exchange of views on opportunities for strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Italy and Bulgaria and deepening the strategic partnership in various sectors, including manufacturing and construction, infrastructure, road and rail transport, energy, digital and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Confindustria President Santorelli in turn outlined the context in which Italian investors operate on Bulgarian territory, dwelling on the problems affecting not only new entrepreneurs but also those already working in the country, stemming on the one hand from the lack of manpower and on the other from excessive bureaucratic burdens. In this context, he suggested a number of best practices for the simplification and digitization of tax compliance so as to eliminate, for example, the possibility of false invoices.
