GAYDON (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Jaguar Land Rover is reporting growing demand for plug-in hybrid models, with retail sales up 29 percent in the first half of the financial year compared to the previous year, as more customers use this technology in the transition to battery electric vehicles (BEVs). As for the Range Rover brand, retail sales of PHEV models increased 47% in the first half of FY25, while Defender plug-in sales increased 23%, also compared to the previous fiscal year. JLR’s PHEV sales were already up 59% year-over-year in FY2024 compared to FY2023, while Range Rover plug-in sales nearly doubled over the same period.Mark Camilleri, Director of Electrification Services, said, “Demand for our plug-in hybrid models is growing as customers become accustomed to electrification. PHEVs offer performance, fuel economy and low emissions, with zero emissions while driving in pure electric mode. They also offer customers the opportunity to adapt to a new ownership experience, including home and public charging, ahead of the launch of our next-generation all-electric vehicles. “JLR can offer a range of fuel options to meet the energy transition dynamics of each market, and we will offer a pure electric variant for each brand by 2030, with the goal of achieving net zero carbon by 2039.” With its longitudinal modular architecture (MLA), on which the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are built, JLR can offer its customers internal combustion engines (ICEs), plug-in electric hybrids,-and soon full electric vehicles (BEVs)-within the decade. The PHEV variant of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport can be driven in pure electric mode for up to 70 miles. This range far exceeds the daily average of 20 miles that UK drivers drive. JLR currently has more than 48,000 customers on the waiting list for the Range Rover full Electric, which is the first in a series of zero-emission luxury electric vehicles from its brands.
