Jubilee, Monsignor Fisichella “Rome has been able to be welcoming”. Mattarella will be present at the closing of the Holy Door

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Today at 9:30 Pope Leo XIV will close the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. The President of the Italian Republic will be present, in addition to the various civil and military authorities, with a massive participation of the faithful. With such a simple and symbolic gesture, with the closing of the last holy door, the ordinary Jubilee of 2025 is closed.” Thus Monsignor Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, at the press conference on the Jubilee budget.

“Rome, according to his vocation, has been able to be welcoming and has expressed the face of a safe city, where the various services from transport to health have worked for the good of the city, the pilgrims and tourists who are not missing. All this has allowed us to verify that the presence of pilgrims has not taken anything from anyone,” he added.

“The whole world has come to Rome, pilgrims have arrived from 185 countries. The city has been in the spotlight of the international press for a whole year, still winning its challenge. 33.475,369 pilgrims arrived in Rome. The forecasts of 31.7 million made before the beginning of the holy year were equally exceeded: from the month of May there was a peak of unexpected attendance, but always managed very carefully”, he explained.

“The feared danger feared by some, that the presence of pilgrims would decrease tourists or cancel other important events, was completely denied by the results obtained on all fronts. The Jubilee was not an investment to lose, it was rather a foul that has increased and will develop in the future a general growth, adding value to the infrastructures that remain for the benefit of the city of Rome and Italy,” he concluded.
