Kazakhstan, Palmieri “Every reform that assures investors is well seen from Italy”

ASTANA (KAZAKISTAN) (ITALPRESS) – Every step that Kazakhstan takes to improve its internal decision-making powers and ensure investors “is well seen” from the Italian perspective. It is the opinion of Domenico Palmieri, secretary general of Isia-Italian Institute for Asia, interviewed in Astana by the agency Italpress. Palmieri was invited to join the team of 359 international observers who monitored the referendum on 15 March. The question put to Khazaki citizens was on the text of a new Constitution, an operation strongly desired by the President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and prepared in record times involving the population in a six-month debate. The text is also the result of the thousands of proposals sent by citizens themselves, through digital platforms made available by the government. “ Kazakhstan has already embarked on a path of constitutional reforms that are putting it in the conditions of dialogue much better than it does now, especially with Western countries, but also with the neighbors of Central Asia and Caucasus,” Palmieri noted.

The text provides for important changes to the political arrangement, with the transformation of the Parliament from bicameral to single-cameral and above all the introduction of the figure of a vice-president, important balancing within a republic based on the presidential format. But there are also economic development goals, such as attention to new technologies and artificial intelligence. One step forward, this, for a country already known for its great resources in terms of raw materials. “The relations between Italy and Kazakhstan are of high level, we are linked a strategic partnership. Kazakhstan is one of the leading oil suppliers for Italy and many multinational companies, but also small and medium-sized enterprises, are present and operate successfully for several years in Kazakhstan,” Palmieri recalled.

“I think that between Central Asian countries Kazakhstan has the leading role of country, both for the power of its economy and for the geographical position. So all the steps and steps that Kazakhstan carries out in the direction of improving its internal decision-making powers and ensuring investors, are well seen from Italy,” he concluded.
