SEOUL (SOUTH KOREA) (ITALPRESS) – Kia has unveiled the exterior design of PV5 in Passenger and Cargo variants ahead of the brand’s second EV Day to be held later this month in the Spanish city of Tarragona. Anticipated by the PV5 Concept at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the compact-sized PV5 is the first model to debut as part of Kia’s new global Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) business strategy.
PV5, designed to redefine the concepts of space and mobility, will adopt Kia’s landmark EV technology to meet the diverse needs of a wide range of users through innovative modularity that will enable unprecedented flexibility and customization. Kia will launch PV5 on the market in different configurations, including “Passenger Van” models designed for passenger transport and convenience and “Cargo Van” models optimized for cargo transport. All versions and specific variants will be unveiled at the upcoming Kia EV Day 2025.
PV5’s contemporary design goes beyond the traditional light commercial vehicle concept, presenting an innovative aesthetic that emphasizes flexibility and customization through a modular approach.
“The PV5 range will be articulated in three different body types to provide innovative solutions to the widest variety of needs, but each variant will feature the same consistent design values inspired by Kia’s design philosophy, Opposites United,” said Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design. “Each variant resolutely expresses a solid, bold and futuristic character and a strongly capable attitude.”
At the front view, PV5 Passenger Van and PV5 Cargo Van exhibit a similar appearance. Each variant is defined by a bold, futuristic personality, which is emphasized by an upper part with sharp, defined lines. Distinctive character lighting integrates with the vehicle’s front pillar in the same way as the overall design, which combines a sleek upper body with a robust and technical lower part, fully interpreting and developing the principles of Kia’s “Opposites United” philosophy. Geometrically patterned black wheel arch liners and PV5 sill panels give the vehicle a strong and capable, almost off-road look, while the clean profile highlights how Kia’s PBV technology redefines space and mobility. The corners of the sturdy lower bumper are designed to be interchangeable, so they play both an aesthetic and protective and functional role.
PV5’s refined geometric profile in the passenger van variant maintains the contemporary look and offers excellent visibility thanks to the large glazed area, made possible by the low beltline. The window section is framed with a striking black graphic glass profile, contrasting with the body color.
Robust black geometric wheel arch liners and the vehicle’s sill panels ensure uniformity with Kia’s SUV lineup and define an almost all-terrain look, firmly uniting the high-tech upper cabin with the more rugged and assertive lower section. Distinctively designed main headlamp clusters enhanced by sleek black accents help enhance PV5’s modern appeal, while the joint line emphasizes the geometric silhouette and contributes to a strong, rugged aesthetic. The rear of the PV5 Passenger Van highlights the robust and modern character of the PBV and reflects its functionality. The elegantly beveled D-pillar line extends best integrating with the body of the vehicle, enhancing the vehicle’s on-road stature.
PV5 features a single liftable tailgate, positioned above a sturdy bumper that mirrors the protective front corners. The body color runs throughout the body to accentuate the momentum and create a unified visual continuity of design.
The PV5 Cargo Van lineup shares the same geometric design as the PV5 Passenger Van, but features a squarer profile that translates into greater volumetric efficiency. A clean, modern aesthetic marked by a sense of order in every element elevates the design of the PV5 Cargo Van over traditional light commercial vehicles.
A key difference lies in the Cargo Van’s dual side-opening rear doors, which offer maximum convenience and easy access for loading and unloading, again with a view to allowing users to tailor their experience to their specific needs.
The rear design complements the sleek side lines, providing a solid, modern appearance. This approach achieves the effect of increasing cargo capacity and creating a feeling of great space and openness.
