WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – US President, Donald Trump, and First Lady, Melania Trump, welcomed on the southern lawn of the White House King Charles III and Queen Camilla, on the occasion of the official visit of the royal couple in Washington. The four entertained themselves for the usual photo shoots and for a short exchange of agreeables before entering the presidential residence for a private tea.
The visit of the British sovereigns is part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence from the United Kingdom and aims to reaffirm the solidity of the relations between Washington and London, historically allies. The meeting follows the recent state visit of President Trump in the UK, which took place in September, during which the American leader had been received with an unprecedented welcome.
King Charles and Queen Camilla landed just before 15:00 (local time) at the Joint Base Andrews, where they were greeted by the head of U.S. protocol Monica Crowley and the British ambassador to the United States, Christian Turner. In their honor a short musical ceremony was performed with the execution of the national anthems of both countries before the transfer to the White House.
Tomorrow King Charles will take part in a joint session of the Congress, becoming the second British monarch in history to turn to US MPs gathered.
