Kosovo, Serbia deny involvement in water canal damage

BELGRADE (ITALPRESS) – President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, in a note, “strongly denies any involvement in the attack that damaged a water supply channel vital to many residents of Kosovo, including many Serb enclaves.”
“The blast caused extensive material damage and fueled already high tensions in the region,” the note reads, also pointing out that “Christian Serb communities in northern Kosovo are constantly exposed to systematic discrimination and increasing pressures, as regularly documented in UN reports. In the past two years, approximately fourteen percent of Serbs have fled the region as victims of systematic repressive policies.” It also expresses “serious concern about the intensive police operation currently being conducted in northern Kosovo by the so-called Kosovo authorities.”
Therefore, the note continues, “we call for calm and immediate de-escalation to avoid political instrumentalization of events that were triggered by unknown causes. We urge all stakeholders and international representatives to promote a peaceful investigation to uncover those responsible and avoid exacerbation of an already explosive situation.”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic finally insists that Serbia “is totally uninvolved” in the damage to the canal,
calls for “a quick return to peace” saying he is “ready to contribute in any way possible to the resolution of the investigation.”
