Kosovo, the Vetevendosje movement is confirmed as the first party in the last elections

PRISTINA (KOSOVO) (ITALPRESS) – The Vetevendosje movement (LVV) ranked first in parliamentary elections held on 28 December, obtaining 49.3% of votes with a turn of 44.59%. According to the preliminary results of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), relaunched by the Koha Ditore newspaper, LVV has recorded a significant increase compared to the 9 February elections, gathering approximately 430.000 votes, against 42.3% obtained then. In the second place, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) was ranked with 21.01% of the votes (183.258), while the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) scored 13.56%, marking the most marked decline compared to the previous election round. The Covenant for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has crossed the barrier with 5.68% of votes, while the Social Democratic Initiative (NISMA) has remained below the threshold with 1.72%. The Serbian List has announced that it has secured all ten seats reserved for the Serbian community. The president of political force, Zlatan Elek, said that the party obtained about 90% of the votes of the Serbian community. The Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival led by Nenad Rasic, according to the preliminary figures, exceeded 11% of the votes for the Serbian parties, ensuring a parliamentary seat.

In terms of seats, Vetevendosje began to obtain 56 mandates in the Kosovo Assembly, thus approaching the majority needed to form a government autonomously. The Democratic Party of Kosovo would have 23 seats, the Democratic League of Kosovo 15 and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo six seats. Additional 20 seats are reserved for representatives of minority communities. LVV prevailed in most municipalities in Kosovo, confirming itself as the main political force in 24 municipalities, including those traditionally considered as strongholds of the opposition.

From Vetevendosje’s headquarters, the candidate for a third term as Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said that the institutions will be formed quickly, expressing the expectation of a collaboration with opposition parties, in particular on major international agreements. The leader of the LLDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, assumed responsibility for the negative result of his party, announcing an internal debate and not excluding resignation. The election day was largely peaceful, with some technical and procedural irregularities. The Kosovo police reported five criminal proceedings initiated in relation to the electoral process, without serious incidents such as to compromise the regularity of the vote. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, expressed the hope that the new Parliament and the new government will be formed as soon as possible.
