Lautaro’s goal and Inter expel the Stadio Olimpico, 1-0 to Roma

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Inter expelled the Stadio Olimpico by overcoming Roma 1-0 in the match valid for the eighth day of the 2024/2025 Serie A championship: Lautaro Martinez’s goal decided the contest. A success that allows the Nerazzurri to stay in the wake of Napoli, in second place in the standings. After an initial unsuccessful conclusion by Pellegrini, the Italian champion team began to show itself from Svilar’s sides with a powerful shot by Thuram, which the Giallorossi goalkeeper managed to oppose by deflecting it into a corner. In the 11th minute, Sommer, on a cross from Pellegrini, took a big risk by letting the ball slip through his fingers, which ended up on the post and then went back into the Swiss’s arms. A minute later Simone Inzaghi is forced to make the first change, replacing the injured Calhanoglu with Frattesi. On 13′, Inter carved out a sensational double chance: first with Thuram, bricked by Ndicka, and then with Mkhitaryan, who chipped the top of the crossbar. After Calhanoglu, Acerbi also ended up knocked out and Inzaghi at 27′ used the second substitution slot to send on De Vrij in place of the former AC Milan man. Roma made an escalating finish with Dovbyk’s insidious pressing of Sommer and Pellegrini’s shot promptly repelled by the Swiss goalkeeper. At the end of three minutes of stoppage time, it was back to the locker room with the score 0-0.
In the second half it was still the Nerazzurri team that made itself more dangerous with a conclusion by Barella that did not hit the goal mirror. At 60′, Simone Inzaghi’s boys found the lead through Lautaro Martinez, who stole the ball from Celik and, thanks to a deflection by Dybala, beat Svilar for 1-0. The capital club tried to react by relying on the plays of Dybala and Dovbyk, but their attempts were foiled by an alert Sommer. Despite the final onslaught of Ivan Juric’s men, the Italian champions defended the lead and brought home the 1-0 victory, mainly thanks to a great save at the expiration of the match by Sommer on Soulè. By virtue of this result, Inter return to second place in the standings with 17 points, while Roma remain 10th at 10. On Wednesday, the Nerazzurri will be engaged in the Champions League against Young Boys, while the Giallorossi will host Dinamo Kiev at the Stadio Olimpico in the third day of the Europa League.
