Lavrov “Washington understands Russian position.” Zelensky “Negotiations are not behind the backs of Ukraine and the EU.”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – After the conclusion of the Russian-U.S. summit in Riyadh, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that “the United States better understood the Russian position after the talks in Saudi Arabia. They were very useful talks.” Speaking at a press conference, Lavrov thanked Riyadh for hosting the talks. He also referred to several agreements between the two countries, and explained that the dialogue with the U.S. focused on the importance of respecting common interests, stressing that it was agreed to work out a process to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He also indicated that consultations on Ukraine would be periodic between Moscow and Washington. Regarding the meeting between the Russian president and his American counterpart, he said, “We will work to prepare the conditions for the holding of a meeting between Putin and Trump.” The Russian minister explained that he explained to the American delegation that NATO expansion poses a direct threat to Russia, stressing that he confirmed to America that Ukraine’s membership in NATO poses a threat to our national security. Lavrov also stated that his country will not allow peacekeeping forces to be sent to Ukraine.
Lavrov also announced the appointment of ambassadors between Moscow and Washington, stressing that the agreement aims to remove barriers between the two countries’ diplomatic missions. While on economic cooperation between the two countries, he said there is great interest in easing restrictions on economic cooperation with America. “There was great interest in removing economic barriers between Moscow and Washington,” he continued. In turn, the U.S. State Department announced that the meeting was positive, adding that the two sides agreed to lay the groundwork for future cooperation between Washington and Moscow and a mechanism to normalize relations between the two countries. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce added in a note that it was also agreed to appoint a high-level negotiating team to begin work on ending the war in Ukraine.
“Europe should thank Trump for his efforts to end the war in Ukraine,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at a press conference in Riyadh after talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on the war in Ukraine.
“Trump is working to resolve the conflict in Ukraine for the benefit of everyone, including Europe,” the U.S. diplomatic chief explained. “Ending any conflict requires concessions. Trump is the only leader who can end the war in Ukraine.” At the moment, “the Riyadh talks are the first step to ending the war in Ukraine.” Rubio announced that “we will reactivate diplomatic missions between Washington and Moscow.” U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz also spoke at the conference, for whom “Trump is determined to end the war in Ukraine. We will increase the momentum of talks with Russia and discuss the “issue of Ukrainian territory.”

“It is crucial for Ukraine, for our region and for Europe that negotiations on ending the war do not take place behind the backs of the key players suffering the consequences of Russian aggression. Ukraine, Europe – in a broad sense, and this includes the European Union, Turkey and Britain – should be involved together with America in the talks and in developing the necessary security guarantees that affect the fate of our part of the world.” Thus on Telegram Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who met in Ankara with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“For the war to end with a reliable and lasting peace, no mistakes must be made. This is possible only when negotiations are fair and guarantees are developed with the participation of all those who are really capable of providing them. Today we discussed this issue with President Erdogan and I am grateful for his understanding,” he added.
