ENSCHEDE (HOLLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Lazio retains first place in the Europa League after three matches. Marco Baroni’s team overcame Twente (left with 10 men from the 11th minute) 2-0 with goals from Pedro and Isaksen at the Enschede Stadion (where Oosting’s men had remained unbeaten in their last 12 matches) and climbed to 9 points in the standings, continuing to travel with full points. The best way to leave behind the defeat against Juventus, conditioned by Romagnoli’s expulsion at 24′. This time it was Lazio – on the pitch with seven different starters than in the last league match – who took advantage of a red early in the match. Punishing Twente’s high defense was Dia, who took a shot in a regular position and was fouled by goalkeeper Unnerstall, who was sent off by Montenegrin referee Dabanovic. The match took on the connotations of a Lazio siege: in the first half the Biancoceleste team recorded 60 percent of the ball possession, kicked eight times toward the goal, hit a post (with a Marusic cross without deflection at 25′) and scored a goal. In 35′ Pellegrini rewarded the insertion of Vecino, who was polished in crossing low from the goal line for Pedro, who just a few steps away from the goal beat the newly entered goalkeeper Tyton with his right: the referee at first annulled for offside, but Var corrected the error and validated the 0-1.
The script does not change in the second half, and in 49′ Lazio goes close to doubling the score: Vecino crosses from the right, Pellegrini at the second post hits a volley and chips the crossbar. In 74′ Dabanovic concedes a penalty to the guests for a contact between Hilgers and Castellanos, but changes his mind after Var review. For the goal it was all postponed to the 87th minute when Dele-Bashiru served Isaksen the ball for 2-0: the Dane on one-on-one with Tyton did not miss with his right flat. On Thursday, Nov. 7, Baroni’s team will take on Porto at the Stadio Olimpico with nine points, nine goals scored and one conceded.
