Lebanon, Netanyahu “Well efforts to disarm Hezbollah, but not enough”

TEL AVIV (ISRAELE) (ITALPRESS) – The efforts made by the Lebanese government and the Lebanese armed forces for the disarmament of Hezbollah “represent an encouraging start, but they are far from sufficient, as demonstrated by Hezbollah’s efforts to re-arm and rebuild its terrorist infrastructure with Iranian support.” The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says so. “The ceasefire agreement mediated by the United States between Israel and Lebanon clearly states that Hezbollah must be completely disarmed. This is imperative for the security of Israel and the future of Lebanon,” the message concludes. This morning the Lebanese army announced that the plan to regain control of weapons in southern Lebanon was “enter in an advanced phase” and the “objectives of the first phase” were achieved.

In his statement, which never explicitly mentions Hezbollah, the army has emphasized that it will lead a “full and in-depth assessment of the first phase of the ‘Scudo della patria’ plan, according to which it will determine “the direction of the successive stages”. The Beirut army admits that there is still a lot of work to do to reclaim unexploded devices and tunnels in the area. The army had set the deadline at the end of the year to reclaim weapons belonging to the Hezbollah group supported by Iran from southern Lebanon, to the border with Israel, before proceeding with other areas of the country.
