Libya, Tajani meets Dabaiba: “We work for the stability of the area”

MISURATA (LIBIA) (ITALPRESS) – The Prime Minister of the Government of Libyan National Unit Abdul Hamid Dabaiba today held a meeting with the Vice-President of the Italian Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, to strengthen bilateral relations.

In a statement, the Government of Libyan National Unit explains that the meeting has dealt with ways to develop cooperation, especially in the economic and service sectors, as well as discussing the issue of irregular migration. During the meeting, Dabaiba stressed the strength of the relationship with the current Italian government, asking Italy and the European Union for direct and clear support in addressing migration challenges, and stressing that Libya bears great security and humanitarian burdens.

The Prime Minister reiterated Libya’s refusal to be a homeland for illegal immigration or a stabilisation point for migrants, stressing the need to support the expulsion and repatriation plan. In the economic context, Dabaiba has reviewed strategic partnerships, citing the signing to Measured of the agreement for the expansion of the port of the Zona Franca with investments of 2,7 billion dollars and the participation of the MSC society, to increase the capacity to four million containers per year.

It then clarified that the project, which should generate 500 million dollars of annual revenues and thousands of jobs, is realized through direct foreign investments without charges for the state budget. The meeting also touched the cooperation in the energy sector, with Dabaiba who praised the announcement of Eni on the beginning of the drilling of the first deep water exploration pit in the Gulf of Sirte using the ship “Saipem 10000”. At the end of the meeting, the two parties stressed the importance of continuing coordination to achieve stability and development.

“We want to work more and more so that there can be stability in Libya, which is an important aspect.” The Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said so on the side of the meeting. “We work for the stability of the area, also to promote the economic growth of the Mediterranean. Our foreign policy also makes our enterprises, I am also Minister of International Trade, working alongside companies is our duty.” With Dabaiba “we talked about economic issues and the fight against irregular immigration”.
