LIEGI (BELGIO) (ITALPRESS) – Tadej Pogacar wins the 112th edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liegi. After the disappointment of Paris-Roubaix, the Slovenian outclase managed to detach Paul Seixas in the last cote of the day. The French arrived second with 43′′′ delay, third classified the Belgian Remco Evenepoel. A fall in the first kilometers inflamed the race by splitting the group in two, with the UAE remaining behind and the pair Evenepoel-Bernal to pull to all together with the teammates in order to be able to put in difficulty the Slovenian. Despite the advantage conquered, the two most dangerous fugitives were resumed at 100 km from the finish line, on the Cote de Stockeu the group returned to be compact.
The decisive flame came on La Redoute, with the attack of Pogacar: only the young Paul Seixas managed to stay in touch with the defending champion. The group towed by Evenepoel remained at 40′′′ trying to recover the couple in command, but the two pulled straight to the finish line. The Slovenian garden attacked again on the Cote de la Roche aux Faucons, at -500 meters from the end of the climb the transalpine baby paid the effort and detached. Pogacar conquered his third Classical Monument of the season, putting for the fourth time (the third consecutive) his name in the Golden Hound of Doyenne.
“Today many things have happened. I only followed the wheels, we went really fast: when I lifted my head I saw the group split, after 20 minutes we realized that maybe it was better not to let go of the escape. A bit of fear there was, inside there was Evenepoel, but the team did a great job,” said Tadej Pogacar after the race. “It was always under control – the Slovenian director of the EU Team Emirates XRG continued – but with this particular situation. It counts so much to have won one of the most important races of the calendar, I am really happy. I’m proud of my team. Seixas? On La Redoute I pushed deep, I saw that it was stuck to me, pushed all day. I was preparing to do the sprint at two, then I managed to pull it off”, concluded Pogacar.
