ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In local public transport (Tpl) the fleets are renewed: half of the buses no longer go to diesel, strong growth of electricity and hybrids, although the dynamics of demand is still weak and the gap Nord-Sud remains wide. Istat notes this, according to which the electric and hybrid buses increase above all (+54.9% on the previous year), while the gas-powered ones have a lower growth (+9.7%), remaining however more numerous (29.9% of the buses in operation in the municipalities capital, against 18.4% of the electric and hybrid buses). Gas-powered buses are more widespread in the North-East (46.5%) and Central (36.6%), while electric and hybrid buses are concentrated in the North-West (26.4%). Also following the investments made, “there are no substantial differences between the Euro 6 bus quotas or zero emissions of the cities of the North (61.7%), the Centre (59.1%) and the Mezzogiorno (61.7%)”, explains Istat. However, there are still substantial shares of Euro 5 vehicles, registered for more than 11 years (26.5%), and of the previous classes, registered for more than 16 years (12.5% in the whole of the provinces, and 22% in the cities of the South).
The offer of the services of electric micromobility, in decrease for the third consecutive year, falls to 24,5 monopattini for 10 thousand inhabitants (from 25.5 of the previous year) and is present in 40 lighters (two in less than 2023). Over 70% of monopats in sharing work in the metropolitan corners: Rome hosts the largest fleet (13,500, almost a third of the total), but the city with the highest offer is Pisa, with 78,4 monopattini for 10 thousand inhabitants. The offer of scooter sharing continues to be reduced, more than halved over the last two years, Istat notes. The bending of the services of micromobility and scooter sharing is however compensated by a resumption of the bike sharing, present in 2024 in 65 capoluoghi with an average of 25,1 bikes for 10 thousand inhabitants, against the 23,5 of the previous year. The offer of car sharing continued to grow, back from 2022 to 2019 levels, and present, in 2024 in 35 cities, with an average of 4.9 vehicles for 10 thousand inhabitants, against 4.7 of 2023 (in 2021 they were down to 3.9). This modest increase, however, is the result of a strengthening of fleets (more numerous) free flow (+12.8%) and a contraction of fixed-posted (-38.4%).
