Lookman and Retegui show, Atalanta overwhelms Verona 6-1

BERGAMO (ITALPRESS) – A clear-cut victory, never in question. Atalanta overwhelms Hellas Verona, in Bergamo ending 6-1 thanks to the goals of Retegui (two goals), Lookman (two goals), De Roon and De Ketelaere, useless for the Scaligeri the goal scored by Sarr in the first half. Important success for the Bergamaschi, momentarily third in the standings on equal points with Udinese and Juventus. Fifth defeat in the last six for the gialloblù, immediate redemption will be needed with Lecce. Not even time for the classic study phase to pass that Atalanta managed to channel the match on the right tracks. At 6′ De Roon, on Lookman’s suggestion, opened the saucer past Montipò, three minutes later Mateo Retegui found the doubling goal, his ninth in nine games played in Serie A, thanks to a left-footed shot that came after a rebound by the visiting defense. De Ketelaere, after just 14 minutes, came up with a brilliantly-struck finish at the second post that virtually sunk a Verona side in total confusion. The fourth and fifth goals came in 29′ and 34′, with Lookman virtually unleashed: first a solo effort, then an opportunist goal. Sarr’s goal did not serve to make Verona’s evening less bitter: in the second half Lookman again hit the crossbar, at 13′ Retegui sealed the tenth goal thanks to an assist packed by Samardzic, who entered in the second half. Not even the three changes at the beginning of the second half changed the fate of a match that was already written, Atalanta, at its third consecutive victory in the league after the 0-0 accrued against Celtic, was the one to celebrate. In the next round there will be the challenge with Monza, Verona will instead face Lecce, a match to be won at all costs to erase a really heavy knockout. – Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
