ROME (ITALPRESS) – Luigi Mazzone is the new president of the Italian Fencing Federation. At the XXXIV Ordinary National Assembly, held at the Coni Hall of Honor, the president-elect garnered 245 votes, equal to 55.43 percent of the vote, surpassing outgoing president Paolo Azzi who stopped at 197 votes, equal to 45.57 percent of the vote. For the 51-year-old Sicilian executive, this is his first term in office. “I am honored and excited. But also very empowered. Thanks to the Assembly that granted me the trust. Thanks to Paolo Azzi for this confrontation. I will try to put energy and passion at the service of our Federation. This is the commitment I make before all of you. Because all together we are the Italian Fencing Federation,” Mazzone’s first words. Subsequently, the Assembly also saw the election of the Board members for the Quadrennium 2025-2028: Daniele Garozzo, Daria Marchetti, Elisa Albini, Paolo Menis, Andrea Sirena, Marcello Antonio Scisciolo and Francesco Montini in affiliates quota; Federico Vismara and Beatrice Vio Grandis in athletes quota; and Cristiana Cascioli in Technicians quota. Finally, Gianfranco Picco was elected president of the Board of Auditors. The proceedings, chaired by Luca Magni with Vice-President Aldo Cuomo, were opened by a minute’s silence in memory of Maestro Gianni Augugliaro and all the members of the Italian fencing family who have passed away over the past four years. At the end of the last vote, President-elect Luigi Mazzone outlined the programmatic lines for the new term, whose approval by the Assembly officially started the Quadrennium 2025-2028.
