M5s, Conte “Split? I don’t see this risk.”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I don’t see this risk.” M5S leader Giuseppe Conte said this in an interview with Repubblica when asked if the movement was close to a resounding split. According to the former premier, the party’s founder, Beppe Grillo, “has made precise contractual commitments that oblige him never to raise questions about the use of the symbol by the Movement, which, moreover, has already been modified several times and is registered in the name of the 5 Star Movement association and not of individuals.” And to those who accuse him of turning the movement into a personal party, Conte replies, “This is sound nonsense. I do not remember that in the past a constituent was ever made from below with full freedom to defenestrate even the leader or approve addresses that he did not share.” Finally, on the possibility of running for reappointment after two terms, Conte admits, “there has been a discussion going on for some time that has already involved, before I came to the leadership of M5S, a change in the rule. I do not in any way want to condition the outcome, I just register that especially in some administrative rounds the rule risks disadvantaging us.” (ITALPRESS).
