ROMA (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Sapienza University of Rome is considering expanding its digital presence in Malta through UnitelmaSapienza. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malta confirmed that this week in Rome was signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which establishes “a structured framework for enhanced cooperation” between the two countries.
The MoU was signed by Professor Bruno Botta, Rector of UnitelmaSapienza, and by the Maltese Ambassador in Italy, Daniel Azzopardi, in the presence of Minister Ian Borg and other officials. The agreement follows Botta’s visit to Malta last year, during which he met Minister Borg in Valletta to discuss future collaborations.
According to the Ministry, the MoU “defines a structured approach to explore the possible creation of a presence of Wisdom in Malta, the provision of academic and professional services in areas relevant to the Maltese economy and cooperation in education and training, including areas of interest for Maltese diplomats and public officials”.
Minister Borg praised UnitelmaSapienza, EducationMalta and the Embassy of Malta in Rome for rapidly developing discussions last year. “This agreement will promote the development of academics and students in our countries and beyond. Quality education is the most effective path towards equality, resilience and prosperity,” said Borg, urging both parties to create concrete opportunities to support socio-economic growth.
Professor Botta stressed that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to strengthen the academic and institutional links between Malta and Italy. The Director General of UnitelmaSapienza, Mauro Giustozzi, Vice Rectors Rosella Castellano and Pier Luigi Petrillo were present at the signing; and the Head of the Internationalization Office, Maria Grazia Semilia.
