Marc Marquez on pole position in Austin, Bagnaia sixth

AUSTIN (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Marc Marquez, riding the Lenovo Ducati, is the poleman of the Grand Prix of the Americas, thanks to a time of 2’01″088. At the Austin circuit, the Spanish champion will start for the third consecutive time from the first box.

Marc Marquez, moreover, is the first rider in history to win eight pole positions on the same track. Second position, on the other hand, for Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati Pertamina, +0″101), who squeezes in between the two Marquez brothers. Rounding out the front row, in fact, is Alex Marquez (Ducati Gresini, +0″360).

Pedro Acosta (Ktm, +0″416) opens the second row: Franco Morbidelli (Ducati Pertamina, +0″441) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo, +0″523) will start fifth and sixth, respectively. They are followed by the two Hondas of Luca Marini (+0″649) and Joan Mir (+0″920): the third row will also feature Jack Miller (+0″920) with the ninth fastest time. Finally, the fourth row sees, in order, Maverick Vinales, Fabio Quartararo and Fermin Aldeguer (crashed during the round).

LE DICHIARAZIONI

“My time was not incredible because I made too many mistakes in the last sector. Here in Austin it’s not easy to do a perfect lap, given the many potholes. Nothing was a foregone conclusion today, considering that yesterday’s rain complicated things: we had not yet lapped in the dry.” These are the words of Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo), to the microphones of Sky Sports, poleman of the Grand Prix of the Americas, at the Austin circuit. “I am fully convinced of my potential,” added the multi-time Spanish champion, “My race pace is very good: we will see how the soft will perform in the Sprint. I am sure, however, that Diggia, Alex and Pecco will be competitive.”

Fabio Di Giannantonio: “For me today was a super day. My goal was to get the front row: together with the team we did an incredible job. Marc Marquez has something more, but in the Sprint and in tomorrow’s race I will try to stay attached to him and learn something – said the Italian rider to Sky’s microphones – “I had a good lap, but I thought I had been cancelled. I didn’t notice the return right away, then I saw my men here at the parc fermé,” he added.

Alex Marquez: “I try to be explosive in every race. On this track Marc definitely has an edge. I gave my best, but I also made a mistake on the last lap: my time could have been better. I am happy with the pace and this front row – the Spaniard’s words to Sky – Marc makes so much difference in the third sector. I don’t really know how he does it, but he can control the bike differently from the others. Sprint? I will attack from the very first lap. I will push hard as my rivals will certainly do as well.”
