PARIS (FRANCE) (ITALPRESS) – Front National leader Marine Le Pen and eight other MEPs have been found guilty of embezzling public funds in the case involving some Front National parliamentary assistants.
The main charge for the defendants was that they used funds intended for parliamentary assistants from the European Union to pay staff employed by the political force.
According to a report by broadcaster “Bfmtv,” the 12 assistants tried along with the MEPs were also found guilty of receiving stolen goods. The court estimated total damages at 2.9 million euros, as the European Parliament “took on people who actually worked for the far-right party.”
Marine Le Pen has been sentenced to ineligibility with immediate execution. This was reported by broadcaster Bfmtv, adding that it is “the worst case scenario” for the Front National leader, who is thus excluded from the upcoming presidential election.
