Mario Draghi is the winner of the Premio Bancor 2025

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Mario Draghi, economist, former central banker and former President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic, winner of the Bancor Award 2025. The award was given to Mario Draghi on Thursday, December 11 by Federico Carli, President and founder of the Guido Carli Association, and by Ernesto Fürstenberg Fassio, President of Banca Ifis who sponsors the Bancor Prize. In Draghi, also, a laudatio was dedicated by the current Governor of the Bank of Italy, Fabio Panetta. The jury of Bancor wanted to reward Mario Draghi for his ability to promote cooperation and trust between Nations and economic actors.

Established in 2022 by the Guido Carli Association, under the patronage of Banca Ifis, the Bancor Prize celebrates the excellent personalities in the economic and financial world, recognizing competence, integrity and transparency. Mario Draghi succeeds in the Golden Hound at Mervyn King (2022), Larry Summers (2023) and Raghuram Rajan (2024).

“In an international context characterized by deep uncertainties, in which global disorder risks to cloud the understanding of the current dynamics, the Bancor Prize reaffirms its mission to offer a firm orientation, renewing that tradition of analytical rigour and pragmatism that marked the dialogue between Guido Carli and Eugenio Scalfari. Through awarding to Mario Draghi and Zanny Minton Beddoes, we intend to enhance excellence in institutional building and integrity in economic information, reaffirming the centrality of current analysis compared to simplification. A distinctive feature of this edition is the concrete commitment to the future: with the establishment of the Banking Exchanges, we consolidate support for the merits of the new generations, in the firm conviction that competence and study constitute the essential resources to govern the complex challenges of our time and draw a course of progress and stability”, says Federico Carli, President of the Association Guido Carli.

“In his career leading the most prestigious financial and political institutions, Italian and European, Mario Draghi was an example of seriousness, dedication and competence: all elements that, in contexts of great tension, put successfully at the service of Europe and our country. For this reason, like Banca Ifis, we are happy to give Professor Draghi, together with the Guido Carli Association, the Bancor Award 2025. In a world where international tensions are increasingly worrying, Mario Draghi’s indications must be considered a compass to address the present and manage a political and economic transition to more efficient and sustainable models. This example must also be a polar star for the new generations. And that is why we believe in the value of scholarships dedicated to young aspirant journalists that we confer with the Bancor Award 2026 with the aim of encouraging ever more equitable, correct and in-depth information in an era at the service of the Society,” says Ernesto Furstenberg Fassio, President of Banca Ifis.

Also for 2025, the Bancor Prize celebrated the leading figures of international journalism, which, through their work, affect decisively in public debate. After the award of the 2024 Award at Francine Lacqua, editor-at-large of Bloomberg TV, this year the award was awarded to Zanny Minton Beddoes, Director of The Economist. During the ceremony, one of the most significant news of this edition was announced: the creation of the “Borse Bancor”.

The initiative, realized in collaboration with Group 24 ORE, Class Editori and Sky TG24, provides six scholarships for six worthy graduates, allowing the winners to access paid internships from 3 to 6 months at the drafting of the most important economic-financial publications from the first half of 2026. The Boards are born to promote a meritocratic path between universities, journalism and enterprise: an investment on talent and knowledge that aims to form a new generation of economic information professionals, at the same time generating sustainable value for society.
