ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The national team is a young and somewhat inexperienced group, but it has qualities. Spalletti’s work will be evaluated from June onward, when he will be facing a very important test for our football movement. It will also be a test for this youth that is growing from game to game.” Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta, host of ‘Radio Anch’io Sport’ on Rai Radio 1, thus comments on the moment of Spalletti’s national team, out of the Nations League after the double-header with Germany.
“We don’t have a historical recruiting base, teams like Germany and Belgium can rely on so-called assimilated players,” the Nerazzurri club’s number one added on the subject. “We need to be patient, it’s a new cycle and we need to give time to Spalletti, who in my opinion is doing a great job.
Regarding the Scudetto challenge, Marotta continued, “there are three teams that are the biggest candidates for the final victory, with a compelling and very open championship as we have not seen in many years, and this is good for the movement. We are still in an interlocutory phase, the points are many. Often we only consider the direct clashes, we underestimate what are the easy calendar matches.”
Marotta revealed that the time has also come for Inter to have a second team: “I was a proponent of this at Juventus as well. I think the Under 23 tool is preparatory to putting youngsters in the first team. After all, the gap between Under 19 and first team is too big, we need a middle team. We will also submit an application to the federation at the appropriate time to be able to participate in the Lega Pro championship next year.”
Increasingly intense calendar chapter: “I remember when the league had 16 teams, today we have 20. The first thought is that we should get to 18 teams. Commitments between national teams and clubs are the first problem. The second problem is related to the fact that the tactical, technical and competitive aspect is very different from the recent past. Today the expenditure of psycho-physical energy is not what it was in the 1980s or 1990s. This generates fatigue so many more contrasts that then result in so many injuries.”
Inzaghi recently said that there is too little praise for this Inter: “It is the reaction of a professional, it should be understood. After all, we are Inter, like the big clubs it is subject to great pressure. It’s part of the game. But at the same time we must not hide, we must be ambitious from a sporting point of view and be present at the right time in the various competitions.”
Speaking of Inzaghi, for the renewal, Marotta assured, there will be no problems: “We are very happy with Inzaghi, I think the contract renewal is a formality, he has worked very well in these years and is a great reference point for our corporate model from a technical point of view. He is one of the best coaches in the world and he also has the advantage of having been a very good player, we are very happy to have him with us. When all is said and done then we will meet again and renew the contract.”
Last week a former great like Beppe Bergomi advised ‘probing’ Lazio for Dane Isaksen: “We are the most prolific attack, if I remember correctly only in one game we did not score. Inzaghi’s game goes well with an offensively propelled team. Isaksen is a good player, but every day media attribute to us the interest of this or that player. For sure we have Lautaro-Thuram, the best attacking pair in Italy and high profile at the European level. We will later make our program with ds Ausilio and Baccin, we will take into account what the market offers and many evaluations – Marotta concluded – always with a view to building a competitive team for the goals we have set ourselves.”
