The action of our country, the action of Italy is inseparable from that of the Union and to protect its cohesion, prestige, strength, effectiveness of positions is actually another form of protection of our protagonism, our national interest, our ability to be heard in international life.” This was said by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, receiving to the Quirinale the winners of the contest for Ligation Secretaries – Course “Boris Biancheri Chiappori”.
“We feel the duty to ensure that we avoid the path of the international community over the decades following World War II being dissolved, and that a path that, with so many contradictions, gaps, defects, has made the international community advance on a positive plan of shared rules. It is a patrimony to protect, it is a path to defend,” he said. “It is a matter of avoiding that this path is undergoing a sudden reversal towards the barbarity of international life,” Mattarella added.
“Ge diplomacy is an exercise of extraordinary skill and extraordinary value. It is not mere representation, it is an interpretation of the Italian Republic in relations with other countries and therefore it is an indispensable tool for dialogue with other countries in international life, to make protagonist our Republic”, he explained. “It is a patient activity to build trust between states and peoples, which is that much more consistent, stable, permanent, robust than that simply between institutions – continued the head of the state -. Italy has a prestigious diplomatic tradition, recognized everywhere, appreciated, of a particularly high level. And this appreciation, this consideration everywhere in the world is based on credibility, balance, listening ability, constant and also stubborn search for shared solutions, enriched in this contest by the high female presence that increases the quality of diplomacy of our country”.
