Mattarella “Do not surrender to accidents and deaths in the world of work”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The second edition of the General States on Health and Safety at Work is an opportunity to reaffirm, with renewed determination, the commitment not to surrender to accidents and deaths at work. And a daily sequence that calls us, dramatically, every day, to what is urgent to intervene. The protection of workers is the first form of justice in work, an integral part of the right of every woman and man to carry out a decent and protected activity. A job is not true if it is not even safe. The guarantee of the implementation of this principle requires the joint commitment of institutions, enterprises, workers and social partners: an alliance capable of overcoming differences to pursue shared objectives. We need a security alliance on workplaces.” This is the message of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella read by Chiara Gribaudo, president of the Commission of inquiry on working conditions in Italy, during the General States on Health and Safety at Work, launched today in Montecitorio.

“On the health and safety of workers, shortcuts are not allowed: These goals must guide every choice and every policy of work. I hope that concrete commitments will emerge from these days for this purpose. Strategies of development and competitiveness of our country do not pass from the loosening of the workers’ suits,” Mattarella concludes.
