ROME (ITALPRESS) – “On the occasion of the 208th anniversary of the establishment of the Corps, I am pleased to express gratitude and appreciation to the women and men of the Prison Police for their constant and generous commitment to the service of the state.” This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the 208th anniversary of the founding of the Prison Police Corps.
“The Prison Police,” he stressed, “is called upon daily to cope with difficult situations of tension and suffering, which are becoming increasingly frequent due to the serious phenomenon of overcrowding in progress. The high professionalism and spirit of service of the Corps’ members make a decisive contribution to the implementation of the constitutional principle of the re-educative function of punishment for the possible reintegration into social life of prisoners, despite the very critical conditions of the prison system. On this day, I renew on behalf of the Republic heartfelt expressions of gratitude and support to the personnel of the Prison Police and, at the same time, I turn my heartfelt thoughts to those who have lost their lives or have been injured in the performance of their duty,” the Head of State concluded.
