Mattarella “Italy maintains firm commitment against intolerance. In the Middle East unacceptable violence.”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I am pleased to extend best wishes to fellow citizens and women and men of the Islamic faith who are spending the Eid al Fitr holiday in Italy. Among the fundamental elements of civic coexistence in Italy stand out religious pluralism, the rejection of all forms of discrimination based on adherence to a creed, and freedom of worship. While respecting these constitutional principles, the Republic maintains a firm commitment against extremism and intolerance.” This was stated in a note by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the end of Ramadan (Eid Al Fitr).

“It is painful to note that once again this year the recollection proper to the month of Ramadan has been disturbed by unacceptable violence and enduring tensions, especially in the Middle East. To the feelings of solidarity with the innocent civilians suffering the dramatic effects of the ongoing crises, I add my hope that the message of peace and brotherhood expressed by the religions will be taken up,” Mattarella concluded.
