ROME (ITALPRESS) – “No one here is a foreigner, they are all at home the students present in this Athenaeum, a mirror of the world with its precious diversities that are also mutually enriching riches and that this Athenaeum practices and cultivates in an exemplary manner, in the view and conviction that culture is a vehicle of peace, dialogue, collaboration, friendship. These sound like obvious statements, but they are not in fact, because even in our current season we record contradictory phenomena: wars, violence, disorientation, on the other hand great opportunities that are offered to international and human life by science with continuous questioning. And this is the task of universities, including this Athenaeum with this peculiar characteristic of gathering so many diversities that have a common value that holds them together: culture, mutual openness. It is the image that the Athenaeum has offered throughout this century, of a welcoming, open Italy.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the inauguration of the academic year of the University for Foreigners of Perugia.
