ROME (ITALPRESS) – “World Mental Health Day underscores the importance of mental well-being as an integral part of our health, an essential prerequisite for a satisfying and balanced life.” This was stated by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. “Thanks to the innovative approach of Franco Basaglia, whose
centenary of his birth, Italy has outlined policies more respectful of the rights of people with mental disorders and paved the way for a new concept of mental health based on social inclusion, patient autonomy and support within the community,” he adds. Despite this, the issue of mental health is still too often neglected. The prejudice and misinformation surrounding it prevent many from getting help.”
For Mattarella, “these are women and men who, although living among us, continue to suffer in silence. And the phenomenon is even more worrying when it affects young people who, in a world
hyper-connected and competitive, face pressure that is often unsustainable. There is a need for a support network adequate to the needs of people with mental disorders, not least to support the families who face a daily
enormous emotional and physical burden. Employers, schools, institutions and the community have a crucial role because mental
mental well-being is a collective responsibility and everyone is called upon to do their part to build a more aware, inclusive and supportive society,” the head of state concluded.
