ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, sent to the Head of the Department of Firefighters, Public Rescue and Civil Defense, Attilio Visconti, the following message: “The celebration of the establishment of the National Corps of Firefighters – for the first time on 27 February – is an opportunity to renew the gratitude and gratitude of the Republic to those who daily dedicate their commitment to the defense of the safety of people, to the safeguard of goods and to the affirmation of an increasingly widespread culture of safety and risk prevention. Eighty-seven years ago, the founding of the National Corps marked a fundamental stage in the process of organizing a unitary structure, called to assure all citizens rescue and fire prevention, strengthening the Firefighters as an essential point of reference in the system of public rescue and civil protection, protagonists in the occasion of calamitous events and other dramatic circumstances that have marked the history of the Country”.
“We remember this year, among others, the sixtieth anniversary of the flood of Florence, the fifty-year earthquake of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the disaster of Seveso, the tenth anniversary of the earthquake of Centro Italia. Even in recent weeks, in the South of the Country and in the Islands affected by situations of exceptional bad weather, the teams of the Firefighters have operated without pause, giving evidence of tireless dedication to the common good. On the occasion of today’s anniversary, in making a moving tribute to those who have lost their lives in the fulfillment of their mission, I renew to their families the expressions of the most intense closeness. To all the Fire Brigades and to their dear ones I express the wishes of good feast” added Mattarella.
