Mattarella “Tarantelli a martyr of democracy”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Forty years after the cowardly assassination, the Republic remembers Professor Ezio Tarantelli, a fine and passionate intellectual, a man open to confrontation, and a convinced supporter of economic policies oriented toward social justice and employment development.” President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella said in a note.

“On this anniversary day, I would like to express the senses of the most intense participation and closeness to his family members, to those who were his friends, and to those who meritoriously continue to value his legacy of study and thought,” the head of state added. “In their aberrant ideological fanaticism, the brigatists conceived the deadly ambush against a defenseless person, because of his ideas and the contribution he was making to the country’s choices. Tarantelli was chosen as a target precisely because he was a link between society and institutions, convinced as he was that in confrontation could spring a push for better development, strengthening and not weakening social cohesion. Ezio Tarantelli – who dedicated himself to the university and to students – thus became a martyr of democracy: in the memory of the Republic, his testimony remains indelible.”
