Mattarella to Corriere Umbria editor, “Good battle over newsstands”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – On the sidelines of the inauguration of the academic year of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, the editor of the Corriere dell’Umbria and Corriere Group newspapers, Sergio Casagrande, and Corriere Group administrator Marco Corridori, met with the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to thank the head of state once again for his message Sent and published by the Corriere dell’Umbria to celebrate, in 2023, the 40th anniversary of the newspaper. Casagrande handed the president a copy of the Corriere dell’Umbria published today in a special edition to celebrate the head of state’s return to Umbria with the tricolor in the newspaper’s masthead. The editor also presented, on behalf of the Corriere Group journalists and on behalf of the publishing company, a souvenir plaque to the president containing a metal reproduction of the front page of the June 12, 2023 Corriere Dell’Umbria that hosted Sergio Mattarella’s message of good wishes. Casagrande, after stressing the value of the words expressed on that occasion by the president with regard to the Corriere dell’Umbria and the local press in general, illustrated to the president the campaign recently launched by the Umbrian newspaper in favor of newsstands. “A battle,” Casagrande said, “that we are carrying out to sensitize the institutions to the problem that sees a continuous and inexorable hemorrhaging of newsstands. A campaign,” he added, “that we are carrying out not to protect the interests of the printed paper, but to remind people of the cultural and social importance of newsstands, which are often the last points of aggregation and source of direct information in many small towns and cities. For his part, President Mattarella commented, “Regarding newsstands, yours is an important and valuable battle. You are right in bringing attention to the value of these realities, which are unfortunately too often neglected. Newsstands really do have great importance for many and many of our communities.” The head of state thanked editor Casagrande and administrator Corridori for the tribute received and asked them to extend his thanks to all the journalists and employees and ownership of the Corriere group, joining them in congratulations for their achievements and best wishes for new and future successes.(ITALPRESS).-Photo: Quirinale press office-
