MESSINA (ITALPRESS) – Serious series of road accidents in the Milazzo district, where in the last hours the Fire Department of the Provincial Command were engaged in two distinct technical rescue operations. The first episode occurred last night, just before 22, at the height of the bridge of San Pier Niceto, for an autonomous accident. On the spot, Milazzo’s Fire Brigade Team intervened with tank autopophompa (APS) and half Ranger, which provided the safety of the vehicle and the area. The driver remained unharmed.
More serious what happened this morning, around 8:45, inside the gallery Villafranca, in the highway between Milazzo and Rometta, in the direction of Messina, where a maxi chain buffer occurred that involved about 80 vehicles between cars, vans and heavy vehicles. The highway is completely blocked to allow rescue operations and evacuation of persons involved in the tunnel. Firefighters are working with numerous teams to free vehicles, assist occupants and secure the means, in a particularly complex context for reduced gallery spaces. On the spot there are also the police forces for the management of the road and the reliefs, along with the health staff of 118 for assistance to the wounded.
The vehicles coming from Messina and heading to Palermo are deviated with mandatory exit at Villafranca and return to Milazzo. Serious inconveniences are also recorded along the highway 113, where long queues were formed and the villages of Villafranca Tirrena, Saponara, Rometta, Spadafora and Venetico are strongly congested. The intervention of the rescues is still ongoing and long times are expected for the complete restoration of the path.
