McDonald’s, 4,000 volunteers collected over 10 tonnes of waste in 2025

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – More than 3,500 bags, equal to more than 10 tons of waste, collected by more than 4,000 volunteers. This is the budget of the fifth edition of “Together to You for the Environment”, the project started by McDonald’s in 2021 in collaboration with Assoambiente and Utilitalia to counter the phenomenon of littering and promote the care of public spaces in Italian cities. From September to December, in more than 100 days, employees and licensors, institutions and about 100 realities among local authorities, schools and associations participated in the activity, helping to clean up some green spaces and public areas and redevelop play areas and accessories of urban furniture to generate a positive impact on the territory. More than half of the stages received the patronage of local administrations and municipalities, a recognition that bears witness to the growing closeness of the institutions to the initiative. This year’s edition was distinguished by valuable interventions that left a visible sign in the territories involved. Among these, two mural works signed by the artist Octofly and made with antismog coatings: in Milan, the work “Where the care flourishes” took shape thanks to the collaboration with the City Hall 4 and the Assessorato alla Cultura del Comune di Milano, giving new life to the walls of Viale Puglie 33, while in Rome “Gesti che nut” was realized at the City Market, thanks to the reception of the locality. To complete the novelty, in the McDonald’s Capital it will help to create a new play area within the Corinth Garden, designed to offer children and families a safe, inclusive and regenerated space. Interventions that support the cleaning and redevelopment activities carried out in the local stages and which helped to strengthen the value of a shared commitment to the care of the cities and communities that live there. “ This edition of “Together to You for the Environment” tells the value of care, a simple gesture that becomes powerful when shared – commented Giorgia Favaro, Managing Director Delegata McDonald’s Italy -. Volunteers, our restaurants, institutions and local communities have once again shown that taking care of a place means improving their daily lives. This year we chose to accompany the redevelopment activities with interventions that remain in time, concrete signs of our closeness to the territories. We deeply believe that beauty and attention to public spaces can generate well-being and create new ties in cities where we operate, and we will continue to engage in this direction.” This year the project was also able to count on the technical support of Retake, an active Foundation for the Protection of the Environment and Common Assets, with which McDonald’s continues a path of collaboration that has now been consolidated. Together, the two realities worked side by side to organize participatory and coordinated stages, restoring vitality to urban spaces and directly involving citizens and institutions.“As well as you for the environment”, open to McDonald’s employees and citizens, has seen in the previous editions the involvement of more than 21 thousand people, more than 400 local associations and the collection of more than 14,000 bags of waste for 500 realized stages, of which about half sponsored. The initiative is part of the widest ecological transition path undertaken by the company for a long time since packaging and restaurants, in terms of differentiated collection and recycling. Among the stages of the route: the elimination of disposable plastic in favor of more sustainable materials such as paper, the installation of new containers for the collection differentiated in rooms and dehors, the internal formation, the collaboration with Comieco to ensure the recyclability of paper packaging and the awareness campaign on the correct ways of collecting waste addressed to consumers. The initiative is an integral part of I’m Lovin It Italy, which, through concrete projects and actions across the national territory, bears witness to McDonald’s’ commitment and shared value for the country system.
