Meloni “For Italy Algeria is a strategic partner, never the relationship was so solid and profitable”

ALGERI (ALGERIA) (ITALPRESS) – “This is my second official visit to Algeria in just under four years. I came the first time on 22 and 23 January of 2023, that is, just three months after my settlement as President of the Council, for what was the first bilateral mission in a country in North Africa, and this I believe will clarify without fear of forgetting how fundamental we consider our relationship with Algeria “. This was said by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, during the joint statements to the press in Algiers with the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

“Algeria is a strategic partner for Italy. Especially at a time like this in which instability is growing and certainties decrease, the relationship between Italy and Algeria remains one of the extraordinary certainties on which to count, because it is an ancient and profound friendship. Italy and Algeria have been given a hand many times and each has been for the other always in the moment of need”. “In these years together with President Tebboune we have worked to make friendship between our two countries even stronger. I think I can say today that the relationship between our nations has never been so solid and so fruitful. I am convinced that cooperation between Italy and Algeria can increasingly be a model to follow.”.

“This visit allowed us to examine the state of bilateral relations. We have expressed our satisfaction at the considerable progress made in the bilateral cooperation process in recent years.” The President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said this during the joint declarations to the press together with the President of the Italian Council Giorgia Meloni, at the end of their official interview with the Presidency of the Republic in Algiers. “We have confirmed the strategic character of our multidimensional partnership, especially in the energy sector. In this context, I would like to emphasize the commitment of Algeria to respect its obligations as a strategic and reliable partner for Italy and for Europe, especially in the face of the challenges related to the security of supply and the stability of international oil and gas markets”, added Tebboune, who also renewed “our commitment to deepen and expand cooperation in the areas of modern technologies, start-ups, training, scientific research, renewable energies”.

“In this direction, and as part of the ‘Mattei Plan’ for the African continent, I am pleased with the speedy pace with which the two joint projects are advancing: the cereal production project and legumes in the wilaya of Timimoun and the creation of the Algerian-Italian Excellence Centre ‘Enrico Mattei with African dimension’ for training, research and innovation in the agricultural sector”.

The Algerian president added that “on this occasion we agreed to speed up the procedures for the establishment of the Algerian-Italian Chamber of Commerce, which will allow economic operators to exploit the potential and opportunities offered by our two countries. We also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in the cultural, scientific and humanitarian sectors, in order to consolidate the communication and approach bridges between Algerian and Italian peoples.”.

“We welcomed the efforts that Algeria and Italy are making to strengthen coordination in the fight against irregular immigration, human trafficking, terrorism, cross-border crime and various security issues in the Mediterranean area.”.

GUERRA IRAN-USA, MELONI “L’ITALIA LAVORA PER LA STABILITA’”

“Cloudly, I believe that the current interview between the United States and Iran would be a good news. Italy will support and intend to support thanks to the solid network of relations with the Gulf nations every initiative that can restore stability in the area.” This was said by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, during the joint declarations to the press in Algiers with the President of the Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. “We shared concern for military escalation in Lebanon, which must immediately cease, for a situation in Gaza that remains extremely difficult for the civilian population, especially in the humanitarian context, and the complex work that the international community must continue to do to stabilize the region and to reach the solution of the two states,” Meloni continued.

MELONI SULL’UCRAINA “MASSIMO IMPEGNO PER PACE GIUSTA E DURATURA”

“We also had an exchange of views on the other great scenarios with which we compare. I think of the conflict in Ukraine, which unfortunately enters its fifth year. As far as we are concerned, we continue to reaffirm our maximum commitment to arrive at a just and lasting peace and return to the Ukrainian people a future of prosperity“. This was said by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, during the joint declarations to the press in Algiers with the President of the Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
