ROME (ITALPRESS) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Meloni reiterated the unacceptability of Unifil being attacked by the Israeli military, recalling how the mission acts under a mandate from the Security Council to contribute to regional stability. He stressed the absolute necessity that the security of Unifil personnel be guaranteed at all times. The president renewed Italy’s commitment in this regard, saying he is convinced that through the full implementation of Resolution 1701 we can contribute to the stabilization of the Israeli-Lebanese border and ensure the return home of all displaced persons. During the conversation, the Prime Minister stressed the urgency of working toward de-escalation on a regional basis, renewing Italy’s full readiness, including as the G7 rotating presidency, to work in this direction.
