ROME (ITALPRESS) – Rome Prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi has sent a notice of investigation for the crimes of aiding and abetting and embezzlement to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Undersecretary of the Presidency of the Council Alfredo Mantovano in connection with the affair of the repatriation of Libyan citizen Osama Njeem Almasri. The premier himself made this known in a video on Facebook.
“Prosecutor Lo Voi, the same as in the unsuccessful trial of Matteo Salvini for kidnapping, has just sent me a notice of guarantee for the crimes of aiding and abetting and embezzlement in relation to the affair of the repatriation of Libyan citizen Almasri,” Meloni explained. Notice of guarantee also sent to Ministers Nordio and Piantedosi and Undersecretary Mantovano, I presume following a complaint filed by lawyer Luigi Li Gotti, a former leftist politician very close to Romano Prodi, known for having defended pentiti of the caliber of Buscetta, Brusca and other mafiosi.”
“The facts are quite well known. The International Criminal Court after months of reflection issues an international arrest warrant against the head of the judicial police of Tripoli,” the premier continues. “Curiously, the Court does so just when this person was about to enter Italian territory after he had serenely stayed for about 12 days in three other European states.
“The request for arrest by the International Criminal Court was not transmitted to the Italian Ministry of Justice as it is required by law, and for this reason the Court of Appeal of Rome decides not to proceed with its validation,” he adds. “At this point, with this person free on Italian territory, rather than letting him free we decide to expel him and repatriate him immediately, for security reasons, with a special flight as happens in other similar cases. This is the reason why today the Rome Prosecutor’s Office is investigating me, Undersecretary Mantovano and two ministers.”
“I think it is worth today what it was worth yesterday. I am not blackmailable, I do not allow myself to be intimidated, it is possible that for this reason I am invisible to those who do not want Italy to change and become better, but also and above all for this reason I intend to go on my way in defense of the Italians, especially when the security of the nation is at stake, with my head held high and without fear,” Meloni concluded.
“We point out, in order to provide clarity, the total misunderstanding by numerous political figures of the activity carried out by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, which did not issue, as has been said by several parties improperly, a notice of investigation against President Meloni and Ministers Nordio and Piantedosi, but a notice of registration, which is in itself a due act because it is provided for in Article 6 paragraph 1 of Constitutional Law no. 1/89,” the National Association of Magistrates explains in a note. “The provision requires the public prosecutor, upon receiving the complaint against a minister, and omitting any investigation, to transmit, within a period of fifteen days, the acts to the Tribunal of Ministers, giving immediate notice to the persons concerned so that they can submit pleadings to the college or ask to be heard. It is, therefore, a due act.”
