ROME (ITALPRESS) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for a first exchange of views after the installation of the new European Executive. “At the center of the talks,” Palazzo Chigi explained in a note, “were the priorities for action in the new EU institutional cycle, starting with the relaunch of the European Union’s role and competitiveness in the world. In this regard, President Meloni dwelt in particular on the prospects of the automotive sector in the context of the environmental transition path and the strong concerns of the national agricultural sector in the context of the EU-Mercosur Agreement. Special attention was also paid to European migration policy, taking stock of what has been achieved and how much remains to be done to have effective tools to manage the migration phenomenon. The two Leaders agreed to further strengthen collaboration and complementarity between the Italian Mattei Plan for Africa and the European Global Gateway Strategy.”
